THE CONCEPT
Our task was the design of an interactive application in the context of exhibitions, museums or trade fairs, which makes knowledge domains understandable. We covered the rise and fall of the IS in Syria and gave the users more general information on modern terrorism. We started with collecting all the information we needed. Then we explored the UX, designed the UI and built illustrations and icons.

DIFFICULT TOPIC
The goal of terrorism is to spread fear and terror among the population. Especially in our age of digital networking, this works better than ever. Our goal was to provide factual information about the tactics and background of terrorism and to clarify the perceived versus the real danger of terror while not downplaying the gruesome history.

Defining terrorism is a difficult task, with more than 130 official definitons worldwide, because who you view as a terrorist is heavily dependent on who you are.
2.2
SCREENFLOW
We quickly decided on an app for touchscreens. After collecting the information we needed, we the started working on our information architecture and screenflow.

2.1.1  Our Screenflow, explorative in the begining and linear storytelling in the end.
2.1.2  More detailed sketches to figure out how to display our information.

SCREEN DESIGN
The user starts the application on a screen with the definition of terrorism by various institutions. From there he can also use a content switch to view the  methods and the history of terrorism.

Using the navigation tabs on the bottom right you can switch to the worldmap, displaying the number of casualities through terrorism, the amount of terroristic incidents and the impact of terrorism worldwide. Cycle through almost 20 years and see the landscape of terrorism change.

The right tab brings users to our linear story, telling the history behindt the rise and fall of the IS in Syria, using illustrations, short texts and additional info the viewer can access.
